OPPORTUNITIES

TYPOLOGY provides valuable experience and opportunities to curators, artists, administrators, and arts enthusiasts through our submissions, residency, internship, and volunteer programs.

CURATORIAL SUBMISSIONS
ARTIST SUBMISSIONS
Curators and Artists are invited to submit proposals and portfolios for possible inclusion in TYPOLOGY’s yearly program of exhibitions and events. Exhibitions and projects are supported and promoted through the design, production, and distribution of announcements, press releases, brochures and/or limited edition catalogues, and the programming of related events throughout the exhibition/event run. Installation assistance, documentation, and insurance will also be provided. A reasonable budget for curator/artist remuneration and other expenses will be developed on a case-by-case basis.

Note to Curators: Thoughtful, critical attention to the artists and artworks featured in our projects is a key part of our program and a catalogue essay and interviews with exhibiting artists will be required from the guest curator well in advance of the opening. Strong preference will be given to submissions with a fully fleshed-out proposal and/or completed draft essay.

All submissions will be automatically considered for inclusion in our online Curator/Artist registries, which are a growing resource for organizations, critics, curators, and colleagues seeking work and opportunities for publication, exhibition, and collaboration. Please click on the relevant links above for more important information and full submission guidelines.

CURATORIAL RESIDENCY
Geared toward professional curators and artist-curators with 3+ years of experience in exhibition and publication-making. Qualified individuals will participate in the research, management, and development of exhibitions and events at TYPOLOGY, as well as larger, more in-depth projects and initiatives in support of both our annual programs and long-term organizational development. The Resident Curator will also have the opportunity to propose and develop an exhibition for an upcoming program year for which they will receive an exhibition budget, curatorial fee, and publication of critical writing in an exhibition catalogue.

Applications for the Curatorial Residency are accepted on a rolling basis for two 5-month terms during our program year: September—February (December excluded), and February—June, and candidates must be able to commit 5–10 hours per week in a flexible schedule over the course of their term. An honorarium will be offered upon successful completion of the resident’s projects and tasks at the conclusion of their term (amount to be determined based on the participant’s level of commitment and achievement over the course of the residency). Upon successful development of an exhibition for an upcoming program year, the resident will receive a curatorial fee and budget for their exhibition, plus publication of their curatorial essay in an exhibition catalogue.

INTERNSHIPS
Geared toward curators at the early stages of their careers; artists interested in curating, exhibition-making, and arts administration, students in the arts, curating, or related fields; or others who are interested in curating, exhibition-making, and the arts but have backgrounds in other professions. Qualified individuals will participate in the research and development of exhibitions and events, as well as various special projects and initiatives in support of TYPOLOGY’s annual programs.

Internship applications are accepted on a rolling basis for three 3-month terms during our program year: September—November, January—March, and April—June, and candidates must be able to commit 5–10 hours per week in a flexible schedule over the course of their term. An honorarium will be offered upon successful completion of the intern’s projects and tasks at the conclusion of their term (amount to be determined based on the participant’s level of commitment and achievement over the course of the internship).

VOLUNTEERING
Geared toward anyone who is interested in arts administration, exhibition-making, and the specific challenges and rewards of running a not-for-profit organization, but are unable to commit to the internship program structure and schedule. Perfect for those who would like to support our operations and activities on a more informal basis, qualified individuals may volunteer in a number of ways, from providing staffing assistance during exhibitions and events to applying specialized expertise to guide our long term organizational development.

Volunteer applications are accepted on a rolling basis, with tasks and projects initiated and undertaken on a case-by-case and as-needed basis. Volunteers are eligible for discounts on TYPOLOGY merchandise and services including prints, publications, custom framing, workshops and events (when available), and receive a per diem for coffee and snacks at the Coffee Pub when volunteering onsite.

SUMMER SESSIONS (New!)
We are pleased to launch our newest initiative in support of emerging artists and curators: Summer Sessions, a program through which we are making space and staffing support available to graduates of local and regional colleges and universities to present their thesis exhibitions in downtown Toronto.
