IN HOUSE: A BENEFIT EXHIBITION FOR PAPERHOUSE STUDIO

TYPOLOGY is pleased to be hosting Paperhouse Studio’s first benefit art exhibition.

Paperhouse Studio is a unique space devoted to the production and celebration of a material that is so familiar, it is often invisible – paper!

Ten established and emerging artists who thoughtfully use materials have been invited to experiment and collaborate with resident papermaking experts Emily Cook and Flora Shum. They have worked one-on-one with the artists, asking the question: “What does it mean to think with paper?” Each artist has donated new work that they have created in support of the studio and its programming.

PARTICIPANTS
Nicole Collins • Pamela Dodds • Michelle Forsyth • Annyen Lam • Heather Nicol • Emma Nishimura •
Shani K Parsons • Ed Pien • Jonny Scott • Penelope Stewart

CHINA NOW: SELECTIONS FROM CINEMA ON THE EDGE

TYPOLOGY is proud to support CHINA NOW: Independent Visions, with two exciting film screenings we’re hosting in Small World Music Centre’s theatre space this Spring.

Organized by Toronto-based curator and critic Shelly Kraicer, LA-based producer Karin Chien, and Chicago-based filmmaker JP Sniadecki, CHINA NOW is the touring arm of Cinema on the Edge, a program of 29 experimental films representing the best of recent Chinese indie filmmaking. Launched to wide acclaim in New York last summer, Cinema on the Edge made its debut in Toronto this week with “The Crisis of the Real” — eight documentary films comprising “the most fascinating program in TIFF Bell Lightbox’s Winter Slate,” according to The Toronto Star.

Our own program selection features three groundbreaking animations and one experimental documentary, representing filmmakers from across the Chinese mainland. Join us for this fascinating audio-visual trip on March 30 (evening screening) or April 3 (daytime screening). Cinema on the Edge curator, Shelly Kraicer, will be in attendance to answer questions.

Much more information on the films and filmmakers is available here, and advanced tickets may be purchased at www.universe.com/chinanow. 40% of all ticket sales go directly to the filmmakers in China. Space is limited to get your tickets now to avoid disappointment (and higher prices at the door).
