TYPOLOGY to open November 19th!

After many months of anticipation and delays, we are thrilled to announce that TYPOLOGY is in the building!

As of yesterday, we have possession of our unit (#302) within the newly repurposed Shaw Street School, a beautiful heritage building in Toronto’s West End. As Artscape’s largest project to date nears completion (with over $17 million in renovations and upgrades), the work on our project space has just begun. Framing of walls to divide the space into office and exhibition areas starts today, with electrical and millwork scheduled throughout the rest of October. Stay tuned for updates on our progress, and for more information on our sweet little suite, please see the About the Space page on our website.

Over the next several weeks, the creative community comprising Toronto’s newest cultural hub will be bringing this 75,000 square foot building to life. We look forward to joining our future friends and neighbors at Artscape Youngplace (named in honour of lead donors the Michael Young Family Foundation), including the Koffler Centre of the Arts, Paperhouse Studio, SKETCH, Centre for Indigenous Theatre, Small World Music Society, Luminato, Intergalactic Arts Collective, and the many other exciting organizations and artists we’re thrilled to be working with. A warm welcome also to our new favourite cafe, the Youngplace Coffee Pub, set to fuel creative energies throughout the building and within the Urban Living Lounge, a new wifi-enabled public gathering place on the ground floor.

Artscape Youngplace’s Community Opening is set for November 19th and we hope you’ll come see the building and join TYPOLOGY for the simultaneous opening of our inaugural exhibition featuring Lyla Rye. We’ll also be launching our first exhibition catalogue and limited-edition print, as well as hosting a kid-friendly workshop with the artist.

We’ll be updating the site and blog with artist and exhibition info soon, so check back for that as well as details on the grand opening and other upcoming events. Better yet, subscribe to our blog if you’d like to be the first to know all the great stuff that will be going on!
